Wishing my class girls on children’s day :

My Dear Girls,

You may be sixteen or even seventeen,
Which by default, does not mean
That the child in you is a ‘has been’
Or slipping through your fingers, your ‘precious teens’.

You can be forty and still happily retain,
A child’s wonderment from which most refrain
Nobody can stop you from enjoying the rain
Or the little pleasures of traveling by train.

You can still gaze at the night sky, stars,
Or at the lone eagle through your window bars.
You can still admire the swirling myriad of colours
In the walkway puddle for even hours.

The thrill of opening a gift you can still claim
Or indulge in impulsive acts without an aim
Like skipping steps while coming down the stairs
Or licking a candy floss in the local fair.

In a child, there are other traits more precious
That you should strive to retain in this world, vicious
Like trust, innocence, love and forgiveness
For which your efforts may have to be relentless.

Hope each of you will cherish and nurture
These amazing traits now and in the future
Reveling in the joy that is life, sharing it too
And spreading sunshine and cheer all around you!

Hello M'am,
Landed here through Radhika's blog. And delighted is not the word! Though you'd written this for your class girls, being one of your ex-students, I'm going to shamelessly grab those words for myself too. I think the word ex-student is itself not appropriate when I still think of you often, remember you for all the goodness in you and for those things-big and small that you taught us in school. You have changed many a lives in a good way M'am and I so hope that we have the same patience and a sane mind when we deal with our own kids, just like the way you dealt with us.

It was SO nice meeting you this summer and I'm definitely looking forward to meeting you again. And thanks for being what you are to us!

A very fond admirer of yours,
Revathi-the girl from the Emerald Isle as you address me :)
